Susan Stair’s mosaic and clay piece titled Drum Circle is central to the exhibition. It representing the drum circle in Marcus Garvey Park and includes impressions of the trees surrounding the circle while memorializing the drummers and rueing their loss of freedom to drum at will. Dominant Dansby’s works focuses on collage and pencil drawings often manipulated and intricately layered in three-dimensional pieces that bring you down a rabbithole of discovery. He is inspired by jazz and the ability jazz has to conjure powerful feelings in an individual. Jenevieve Reid’s process layers brushstrokes, decoupage, graffiti tags, patterns and photographic imagery combining her skills in silk-screen printmaking and her street art persona.
