Mon Cher, A Charming French Château Just Minutes From Harlem? (Update)

October 2, 2016

paris-in-harlem1You don’t have to throw your phone in the ocean and hop on a plane in order to get some Provençal peace and quiet. Who knew?

paris-in-harlem2paris-in-harlem5Well apparently Diane Sawyer, since she once owned this idyllic extremely private hideaway built in to the cliffs of the Palisades with her late husband, Mike Nichols in Orangetown, New York. The 3,108-square-foot French charrmer has changed hands a few times since being built by notable art colony founders, the Tonetti family in the 1920s, and it’s on the market once more.

From the Palisades all the way down to West Harlem the area always had an international style of uxury, and a draw for the French, which may explains Joseph Bonaparte, ex-King of Spain and Napoleon’s brother, Lord Viscount Courtenay, Lafayette, Louis Phillipe and Talleyrand living at the Claremont Inn in the early 1800’s.

The best (and perhaps most unbelievable) part? It’s only a 30-minute drive from Harlem.

And you thought moving to the suburbs was a drag.
