Nat’l Jazz Museum In Harlem Hosts Opening Celebration

national museum of jazz in harlemOn Tuesday, March 29, The National Jazz Museum in Harlem (NJMH) will host the opening celebration for its new home at 58 West 129th Street, in the heart of Harlem’s bustling cultural and entertainment scene.  This event invites the Harlem community, special guests, the jazz aficionado and the jazz-curious alike to connect with America’s truest art form and its icons in the cradle of jazz music, and will introduce guests to NJMH’s important ongoing work to present, promote and preserve jazz music.

This special opening event will feature performances by celebrated pianist Marc Cary (Betty Carter, Roy Hargrove, Dizzy Gillespie) and his band and will give guests a glimpse into the rare artifacts that comprise NJMH’s permanent collection (including one of the most comprehensive collections of Duke Ellington recordings). Guests will also be among the first to experience VIBRATIONS, an exhibit featuring over 100 years of Harlem history in one room.

The evening’s speakers include Loren Schoenberg,  NJMH Founding Director and Senior Scholar; Harold Closter, Director of Smithsonian Affiliations; Tim Porter, Esq, Board member, and newly named Chairman of the NJMH’s Board of Directors, among others.
