The Northside Center for Child Development partnered with Northwell Health’s Katz Institute of Women’s Health to host a community health fair in East Harlem on Saturday, September 23, 2017. The event, held in the plaza of the Northside Center’s headquarters, was also supported the American Diabetes Association, NYC Poison Control, NYC Department of Transportation, and the NYC Fire Department. The community event featured several family friendly health and safety activities, including free medical screenings and flu shots, healthy eating guidelines, home safety tips, yoga and CPR demonstrations, along with a DJ, snacks and other gift giveaways.

“The Northside Center remains committed to improving the well-being of children and families across the entire Harlem community,” said Dr. Thelma Dye, Executive Director of the Northside Center. “Cost or access should never be a barrier to basic health care, and we are proud to bring free screenings, health tips, and resources directly into the communities that need them most.”

Activities and services at the health fair included:

  • Free flu shots for the first 150 attendees
  • Blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and BMI screenings
  • CPR and AED demonstrations and instructions
  • Free blue jean giveaway
  • Yoga classes
  • Allergist consultations
  • Home safety tips
  • Free helmets and bicycle safety tips
  • Healthy eating tips

The Northside Center for Child Development is a non-profit organization that has provided early childhood education, behavioral health, and enrichment services to low-income children and families across the New York City for over 70 years.
