Parks Officials Discuss Harlem Lane Playground Reconstruction

October 26, 2017

City Parks Department officials will meet with Harlem residents Thursday night to discuss planned improvements for the Harlem Lane Playground, a public park located on Harlem River Drive between West 151st and 154th streets.

Harlem Lane Playground is set to receive a full reconstruction through the Community Parks Initiative program, parks official said. Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that Harlem Lane Playground would be included in the initiative in September.

“When we talk about improving parks in New York City, we’re really talking about improving the lives of New Yorkers,” de Blasio said in a statement at the time. “The Community Parks Initiative focuses on parks and neighborhoods that have faced the most historic disinvestment and serve dense, growing populations.”

During Thursday night’s meeting, Harlem residents are encouraged to share ideas for Harlem Lane Playground’s reconstruction. In addition to the Community Parks Initiative the playground is also part of the New York City Soccer Initiative and will be the site of a brand-new mini soccer field.

Thursday night’s meeting will be held at the David & Joyce Dinkins Gardens at 263 W. 153rd St. between Macombs Place and Frederick Douglass Boulevard, parks officials said. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run about two hours.
