Progress On Former Victoria Theater Site In Harlem

November 1, 2016

harlem1There are signs of progress at one key site west of Fifth Avenue on Harlem’s famed, fast-changing crosstown boulevard in Harlem, NY.

We couldn’t help noticing a Department of Buildings notice at the former Victoria Theater site at 233 W. 125th St. for “earthwork” associated with a planned, 26-story mixed-use tower to rise behind the restored cinema.

(The mid-October filing is posted on the plywood but for some reason not yet on the DOB Web site).

It suggests that things are moving ahead on the slow-moving project, which is being developed by the Lam Group and designed by Aufgang Architects. Plans for the new building were first filed in October 2014 and demolition started in mid-2015.

The old theater is to be restored and incorporated into the new tower, which will include a Renaissance by Marriott Hotel, a ballroom and significant cultural space.
