Rev Malika Lee Whitney, Significant Elders Of Harlem, And Others At The Apollo Theater

The Apollo Theater Education Program in partnership with the Harriet Tubman Learning Center C.S. 154 in Harlem celebrated members of The Significant Elders of Harlem for their 10 year contribution to the Apollo Theater Oral History Project. 

Reverend Malika Lee Whitney, Artistic Director of Pickney Productions gathered those engaged in the program from 2007 to the present for the momentous  occasion.  C.S. 154 Principal Elizabeth Jarrett and several of the teaching staff shared their enthusiastic appreciation for the program.  Special presentations were offered by Chester Higgins, Jr., photographer, Cal Jones, Borough of Manhattan Historian Emeritus, David Rothenberg theater producer, prison rights activist and radio host, author Nellie McKay and Athena Moore, Office of Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer, Director Northern Manhattan Office. The event included, music, storytelling, poetry, video documentation as well as an engaging activity and  conversation about Harlem history and the ongoing changes in the community.
