Salters Scene: Harlem Shake East First Fridays (Photos)

June 4, 2017

By Udo Salters

Friday night at Harlem Shake East was the jump off for Beer, Burgers and Beats at the beginning of El Barrio Week. Jelena Pasic’s Harlem Shake East on the corner of 111th street and 2nd avenue serves various types of burgers and chicken sandwiches. From the classic burgers to veggie burgers they have you covered. Or if you have a taste for something with a bit more of the neighborhood flare, check out the Frita Cubana — the Cuban style seasoned pork and beef patty topped with shoestring fries — and some Tostones.

Beer, Burgers and Beats is a first Friday of the month event at Harlem Shake East where you can come in, grab a beer, get a burger and chill listening to sounds of Harlem’s own DJ Ted Smooth. The DJ and Producer extraordinaire, on Friday night, took guests on a R&B ride through the decades spinning vinyl!  People walking by had to stop and dance to the beats.

A mix of people came in and out of Harlem Shake East, stopping in for a quick pick up and carry out while others stayed and sat down to enjoy the food and music. Harlem artist Merse came through to hang out. Andrew and Devin of Bronx Brewery were sharing samples of the Brewery’s various beers like No Resolutions, American Ale, Slow Your Roll, and Summer Pale Ale with Lemon Peel. Also seen at the event, Visit El Barrio and El Barrio Week Founder Jeremy Vega talking about the much anticipated events and activities in East Harlem leading up to the Puerto Rican Day Parade.

Add Harlem Shake East to your list of Harlem eateries to visit, especially on the first Friday of the month throughout the summer.
