Senator Marisol Alcántara Holds Universal Single-Payer Healthcare Town Hall Uptown

March 2, 2017

Senator Marisol Alcántara will introduce her community to  the New York Health Act, which would replace New York’s existing health insurance system with public, universal coverage – “Improved Medicare for All.”  Instead of regressive premiums, deductibles, co-pays, and out-of-network charges, it would be paid for through a broad-based progressively-graduated tax based on ability to pay.

Senator Alcántara will hold a town hall meeting on the New York Health Act with the bill’s sponsor, Assembly Health Committee chair Richard N. Gottfried, on Friday, March 3at the Alumni Auditorium of Columbia University Medical Center from  6 – 7:30 p.m. Senator Alcántara will show her constituents how to get involved in the campaign to provide universal health care in New York and answer any questions constituents may have about the advantages of this plan. President Trump and the Republicans in Congress are planning to cut Medicaid, privatize Medicare, and slash the benefits of the Affordable Care Act.  Senator Alcántara believes that a proactive approach is necessary to prevent dangerous gaps in health care for vulnerable New Yorkers, and that the New York Health Act would address fundamental issues with the current system of private insurance.
