Since 2003 Harlem World Magazine, has created content about Harlem, now we bring content to life by offering walking tours of experience Harlem, led by HW contributors who are Harlem chefs, and art historians, dancers, architects, teachers and writers. Most tours last about two hours and proceed rain or shine.
Participants normally number between 20 and 30 people. If we do not reach the minimum required number of passengers on a tour it may be cancelled and you will be fully refunded.
Itineraries
Harlem Food and Wine Walking Tour
Quality food and wine in Harlem has become part of the flavor of what Harlem is about. The tour visits local Harlem hot food spots from traditional Harlem soul food, African food on 116th Street in Little Africa to the lite healthy fare in west Harlem. Accompanied by the great wines that comes from each of the areas visited. Followed by a talk with HW Food contributor visiting one of the visited venues (use the HFWWT1 code)

Harlem Renaissance Walking Tour
The historic Renaissance Harlem locations are part of the life blood of Harlem’s cultural history. The tour visits the Watchtower in Mount Morris Park, the old studio of James Van Der Zee to the Apollo Theater and the site of Madam C. J. Walker’s daughter Liela Walker’s Dark Tower of great dance space like the Savoy to the Minton’s Playhouse and the historic Hotel Theresa. Followed by a talk with HW History contributor visiting of the visited venues (use the HRWT1 code)

Harlem’s Shopping Walking Tour
Style has always been part of Harlem’s history from Sunday strolling down 7th Avenue (aka Adam Clayton Powell, Blvd.,) to old and new Harlem dandy’s on 125th Street. The tour visits bespoke style of Lenox and 7th Avenues, handmade men and women hats to afro-centric stylings on 116th Street. Followed a fashion show of up-and-coming Harlem designers with HW Fashion contributor visiting of the visited venues (use the HSWT1 code)

Harlem’s Jazz Walking Tour
From Cab Calloway, Charlie Parker to The Duke Ellington, Harlem has always been home to jazz and today continues to be a foundation to it’s existence then and still a foundation today. The tour walks to the historic Minton’s Playhouse on 118th Street, Lenox Lounge on Lenox Avenue, the Smoke Lounge on 125th Street. Followed by a jazz set at one of the visited venues with HW Music contributor (use the HJWT1 code)

Harlem’s Arts & Culture Walking Tour
Early in Harlem’s history theater were a foundation to it’s existence then and still a foundation today. The tour visits Amatuer Night at the Apollo on 125th Street, the (George) Faison Firehouse 124th Street, a walk to the National Black Theatre on 5th Avenue and a visit to the Romare Bearden Foundation on 7th Avenue. Harlem’s Black History Walking Tour
African Americans migrated from the south to Harlem after the elevated railroad was built in the mid to late 1800′s. This Harlem tour visits the Marcus Garvey’s office on 135th Street, the Kress and Blumstein’s department stores that mark Harlem’s first Civil Rights marches, and the spot where Martin Luther King Jr., was stabbed, and the historic Apollo Theatre on 125th Street. Harlem’s Book Walking Tour
During Harlem’s Renaissance a wealth of authors and artists become part of the life blood of Harlem. We visit James Baldwin’s high school, Richard Wrights house where he wrote Invisible Man on 145th Street, Langston Hughes home in Sugarhill, and visit the home of the old Liberation Books.
