Mr. Bojangles was a Harlem favorite, he was a Harlem Hellfighter, he danced at the Hoofers Club, in Harlem, and was named an honorary mayor of Harlem. His funeral, which was arranged by longtime friend, television host and Harlem born Ed Sullivan, at the 369th Infantry Regiment Armory in Harlem and attended by 32,000 people. Adam Clayton Powell, Sr. gave the eulogy, which was broadcast over the radio.

President Nixon appointed Shirley Temple Black as a delegate to the United Nations General Assembly in 1969. She was appointed ambassador to Ghana by President Ford in 1974, and later President George H.W. Bush appointed her ambassador to Czechoslovakia.

After her childhood film career faded when she grew up, Shirley went on to a second career as a diplomat. President Richard M. Nixon appointed her as a delegate to the United Nations General Assembly in 1969. She was appointed ambassador to Ghana by President Ford in 1974, and later President George H.W. Bush appointed her ambassador to Czechoslovakia.

Shirley Temple Black died this week at the age of 85.
