Seton Hall announced that Thompson has transferred to the South Orange, becoming eligible next season after sitting this year per NCAA requirements. The news comes days after reports that the Harlem native had enrolled at Seton Hall.

“Taurean is a terrific addition for the Seton Hall men’s basketball program,” coach Kevin Willard said in a statement. “He is long and athletic with good post skills and the ability to step out and shoot. We will work with him during his sit-out year to further his development both on the court and in the classroom and expect him to be ready to compete for Seton Hall next season.”

Thompson, a 6-foot-9 forward from Harlem, spent some of his high school career at St. Anthony before finishing at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. He averaged 9.2 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game in 17.9 minutes for Syracuse as a freshman, and Seton Hall was a finalist for his commitment before he picked the Orange.

With All-Big East center Angel Delgado returning after flirting with the NBA along with guards Khadeen Carrington and Myles Powell and swingman Desi Rodriguez, Seton Hall appears poised for a third straight NCAA Tournament berth. While Thompson will not be eligible to play next season, he can practice with the team and will be tasked with helping the transition next year when the majority of the program graduates.
