Paterson’s Medicaid Budget Cuts

Gov. David Paterson on Monday proposed $1 billion in state spending cuts for the Legislature to consider at a special session. He called for cutting $506 million in Medicaid spending.

Gov. David Paterson today laid out $1 billion in spending cuts for the Legislature to consider when it returns to Albany next week. The cuts include $506 million in Medicaid spending, $250 million in state aid to localities, $132 million in legislative programs, $100 million in pork and $51 million in CUNY funding. With the school year beginning in three weeks, the governor did not propose any cuts to primary and secondary education, but said he would consider doing so next year. Continue reading
