The Apollo Theater, which after Michael Jackson’s death became a de facto mourning place and gathering site for the singer’s fans, will induct Mr. Jackson into its Apollo Legends Hall of Fame, the theater said Tuesday in a news release. The Harlem nonprofit theater said that Mr. Jackson’s posthumous induction would take place at a gala next year. Mr. Jackson will also receive a spot on the Apollo’s Walk of Fame, which is scheduled to be constructed in the fall, and in the spring, he will be given a memorial plaque at the theater alongside fellow inductees like James Brown and Ella Fitzgerald.
