Salters Scene: Black Girls Rock Awards

The founder of Black Girls Rock, celebrity DJ Beverly Bond posed with the host for a few shots to kick off the red carpet arrivals and begin a great night for a great cause: teenage females of color.

On Sunday, November 2, not for profit organization Black Girls Rock with VH-1 Soul celebrated the 3rd annual Black Girls Rock Awards. Held at the Stanley H. Kaplin Penthouse at Lincoln Center, the Black Girls Rock Awards was hosted by the lovely and talented Regina King.

The honorees for the evening were

Iman: BGR! Social Humanitarian Award,

Bethann Hardison: BGR! Shot Caller Award,

Estelle: BGR! Who Got Next Award,

Erykah Badu: BGR! Rock Star Award,

Pam Grier: BGR! Living Legend Award,

April Holmes: BGR! Be Legendary Award,

Rachel Lloyd, Founder, G.E.M.S.: BGR! Community Service Award

Nicole Paultre-Bell & Valerie Bell: BGR! Monument Award,

DJ Cocoa Chanelle: BGR! Jazzy Joyce DJ Award,

Keyshia Cole: BGR! Soul Sister Award and

Kharry Lazarre-White: BGR! Soul Brother #1 Award.

 

Marsha Ambrosius, Bilal, poet/actress Sarah Jones performed and the ever so powerful Susan L. Taylor delivered the evening’s keynote address.
