The recession has been pinching the real estate market in New York, in ways both obvious and mysterious. Last month, ABC announced that the long-running soap opera “All My Children” would move to studios in Los Angeles, after 40 years of production in New York.

And so actors and staff members are exploring the intricacies of bicoastal life, or are preparing to give up their New York apartments and houses for a new life on the West Coast.

Cameron Mathison, who plays Ryan Lavery, a tragic hero and one-time con man, has put his modernist brownstone on West 130th Street, in Harlem, on the market for $2.7 million.

Mr. Mathison said it was a sad time in New York television production history, but an opportunity for Manhattan home buyers, in particular for a buyer interested in his 20-foot-wide brownstone, which has a garden dominated by a Buddha statue.
