After five weeks of previews Motown the Musical officially opened on Sunday, April 14. The show’s book by Berry Gordy is based on his autobiography, To Be Loved: The Music, The Magic, The Memories Of Motown by Berry Gordy, which chronicles his life and the Motown era. The word genius has been employed with regard to Daniel Beaty’s performance in Through the Night. The one-man play written and performed by Mr. Beaty, and directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, can presently be seen at Riverside Theater in the Cultural Animators Series through May 23. Genius is not an accurate description of Mr. Beaty’s performance.
