“…the Souls of My People,” at Gallery M

During Harlem Week 2010, Spirit in Sunset Productions will present free and open to the public, a photography exhibition celebrating the African American Experience entitled “Beautiful, Also, are the Souls of My People,” as well as a series of literary events that accompany the exhibit.  “Beautiful, Also, are the Souls of My People,” a poetic collection of photographs in collage was created by award-winning photographer and poet, Nikki Williams.  The exhibit, as well as the literary programs, will be held in Weston United’s Gallery M, located at 123 West 135th Street between Seventh and Lenox Avenue in Harlem. Sonia Sanchez Tribute at the Harlem Book Fair

On Saturday, July 17, 2010 from 3pm – 5pm, poets, scholars, and musicians come together to honor the legendary poet, educator, playwright, and activist, Sonia Sanchez.  The 2010 Harlem Book Fair presents “Haiku & Handgrenades: Sonia Sanchez,” a tribute to Sonia Sanchez.  Confirmed participants include:  Sonia Sanchez, Haki R. Madhubuti, Max Rodriguez, Willie Perdomo, Tracie Morris, DuEwa Frazier, David Mills, Pineal E. Joseph, jazz percussionist, Eric Frazier featuring African drummers, and Atiba Wilson and the B4 Quotet (flute ensemble).
