For many years 6 Hancock Place was a small abandoned firehouse on a quiet little street in Harlem. Surrounded on both sides by vacant lots, and in the shadow of the dilapidated former Sydenham Hospital it was a sad reminder of the how neglect and urban blight had pockmarked this once vibrant community.
