Goldman investments in affordable housing

The Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group announced Wednesday that it has invested $61 million in the New York Equity Fund, a public/private partnership that aims to build and preserve affordable housing. The investment is the largest in the fund’s 20-year history.

The NYEF will use the investment to rehabilitate 568 units in 47 buildings across Harlem, Brooklyn and the Bronx. The work on these units will start in the coming weeks and will extend through 2010 and 2011. To date the NYEF has invested $1.6 billion in the five boroughs.
