Study Examines Attitudes Of Moms

A new study by BSM Media, a South Florida-based firm specializing in marketing to moms, examined the behaviors, values and habits of mothers across racial lines in a new study. The research shows that while all mothers are battling with the growing concerns facing our nation, such as education and saving for the future, a mom�s coping strategies and motivations are tied into her culture and ethnic background.  

African American, Caucasian, and Hispanic mothers across the country responded to the online survey, on topics such as dreams for their children and favorite indulgences.

NYC Co. Launches Calorie Campaign

Read ’em before you eat ’em,” the Health Department advises in a new campaign launched today to help New Yorkers make the most of the city’s calorie-posting rules. Under the New York City Health Code, chain restaurants are now required to post calorie counts for food items on menus and menu boards. The rule took effect this summer, after a federal court upheld it and an appellate court refused to delay enforcement while the industry tries again to overturn it. The new campaign – five ads appearing in 1,000 New York City Subway cars for the next three months – is designed to help New Yorkers see how quickly fast-food calories add up. Many are unaware that a typical adult needs only 2,000 calories a day to maintain a steady weight. Even fewer know how easy it is to overshoot that goal while eating on the go. Continue reading

But with August upon us, perhaps you’re in the mood for a break, so I’ve rounded up a list of 10 things not to worry about on your vacation.

Now, I can’t guarantee you that any of these worries is groundless, because I can’t guarantee you that anything is absolutely safe, including the act of reading a newspaper. With enough money, an enterprising researcher could surely identify a chemical in newsprint or keyboards that is dangerously carcinogenic for any rat that reads a trillion science columns every day.
