President Obama’s first day on the job focused on high-profile items like moving his $825 billion emergency economic stimulus through Congress, closing the detention center at Guantanamo Bay and starting a drawdown of troops from Iraq.
All well and good. Obama made emphatic campaign promises that must be kept.
But while those matters drive the President’s agenda as well as press coverage for the administration’s first 100 days, here are four items – crucial to the needs of cities – Obama must take action on as soon as possible.

Israel has begun a ground operation inside the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip involving a substantial number of troops backed by tanks and helicopters.
Israeli troops began moving into Gaza shortly after 8 p.m. local time on Saturday. The operation penetrated the territory at several points and was designed to seize areas of north Gaza being used to launch rockets against Israel, Israeli military officials said. Continue reading
