“I See White People” At The Maysles Cinema

The screenplay for White Dog was adapted from the novel “White Dog” (1970) by French writer Romain Gary based on the real-life events surrounding the adoption of a “white dog” in Alabama with his then wife, American actress Jean Seberg (Breathless) in the late 60s.  The phenomenon of “white dogs” trained by racist owners to attack black people was something White Dog director Samuel Fuller had been aware of while covering the Ku Klux Klan as a journalist in the 1930′s.  Continue reading
