Walter’s World: Dance 2.0 Dance Theatre of Harlem

The Dance Theatre of Harlem literally danced onto the arts scene in 1969. With just thirty students and one teacher, co-founder Karel Shock; Arthur Mitchell began what was to become his life’s mission. A Harlem native Mitchell recruited directly from his community and within two months the number of students had grown to over four hundred.

Walter’s World ABT II at the Joyce

On April 13, 2010 the 1,2,3 Festival at the Joyce Theatre opened with a shared program by ABT II, Ailey II, and Taylor 2. Following the shared evening each company presented solo evening performances. The ABT II program was ambitious- to say the least. The company of twelve dancers performed a one hour and forty-five minute program featuring internationally renowned and revered classical variations, contemporary ballets by dance luminaries and a dramatic story-based work.
