Yves St. Laurent’s Harlem Style

The recent passing of fashion maverick, Yves St. Laurent not only surprised the fashion world but the Harlem community as well. Known best for his exception eye for detail and tailoring, with marquee pieces such as safari jackets for men and women, tight pants and tall, thigh-high boots, and the classic tuxedo suit for women St. Laurent’s influence can be seen here in the streets of Harlem. Popularized in the hip hop world by artists such as Kanye West and Lil’ Kim, he was also the first designer to use black models in his runway shows.
