Harlemites And NBCU Launche Web Site For African Americans

Media

TheGrio

Today was a very big day. Over the last several months, I’ve been developing an African American news website (theGrio.com) and it launched TODAY!!

We had David Wilson on MSNBC promoting the site and we started to see our first sign of traffic. It’s pretty exciting.

The site was formed through a partnership between my production company and NBC News and will highlight stories relating to Health, News, Politics, Entertainment and Culture.

theGrio.com will be the first video-centric news community site devoted to providing African-Americans with stories and perspectives that appeal to them but are underrepresented in existing national news outlets. The site’s name is derived from the word ‘griot’ (grē’ō) which is a storyteller in western Africa who maintains the oral tradition and history of a village or family.

Please take the time to visit the site at http://www.thegrio.com and leave comments.

If you like it, please pass the word along. If you don’t like it, I’ll buy you a drink to pick your brain about how to make it better.

Again, please pass the word to your family and friends. It’s a community site and we need the word to get out.

Thanks and Enjoy…
