Harlemites Want Cleaner Heating Oil Now!

Community

Home heating oil is extremely high in sulfur and the pollution it releases is linked to public health effects including aggravated asthma, development of chronic bronchitis and irregular heartbeat.

In the next few hours, the New York State Senate is expected to begin debating whether to pass a bill that would protect public health and greatly reduce air pollution. The bill in question would require No. 2 heating oil, the most widely used, to meet the same refining standards the federal government currently mandates for diesel oil used in on-road vehicles.

The sulfur reduction that will result from passing this bill would be the equivalent of shutting down two and a half coal plants in New York State!

Help all New Yorkers breathe a little easier by taking a moment now to contact the New York State Senate.
