For the past thirty-eight years Ailey II has provided opportunities of aspiring young artists to hone their craft. The company usually will enlist the services of a dancer for two years, and then the artist, for lack of a better word, “graduates” into the professional world of entertainment. Throughout Ailey II’s thirty-eight year history there has been hundreds of dancers fortunate enough to make that transition, but there has always been one constant- Artistic Director Sylvia Waters. Walter’s World: Revelations at Fifty

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater begins a five-week season on December 1, 2010 at the New York City Center. The season will mark the fiftieth anniversary of Revelation, the masterwork choreographed by company founder Alvin Ailey. In preparation of this milestone the Ailey school’s department of Arts In Education and Community Programs presented a panel discussion entitled Celebrating Revelations at 50.

In the world of fine art a painter can be identified by his or her brush strokes. As individual as a fingerprint they are more defining than a signature. Some might say they are the artist’s soul; they possess the distinct characteristics that draw us to this person and their work. When the forces align to create the “perfect storm” we acclaim this phenomenon “art”, and acknowledge the creator with the title artist (unfortunately the word artist is generally under-rated and over-used).

The annual Ailey At The Apollo Spring Gala Benefit Performance took place Tuesday May 4, 2010. The world famous Apollo Theater literally rolled out the red carpet for the 6:30pm “photo- op” prior to the 7pm curtain. Toyota Avalon was the official partner on the red carpet.
