“The Godfather of Soul,” James Brown, is an American musical institution. One night in Boston in 1968, the day after Martin Luther King’s assassination, Brown also became a political and social ambassador on the highly charged issue of race. This three-disc collection focuses on Brown in 1968. Disc 1 holds the VH1 documentary, “The Night James Brown Saved Boston,” about Brown’s actions on stormy April 5 when he was scheduled to perform at the Boston Garden.
