For the past thirty-eight years Ailey II has provided opportunities of aspiring young artists to hone their craft. The company usually will enlist the services of a dancer for two years, and then the artist, for lack of a better word, “graduates” into the professional world of entertainment. Throughout Ailey II’s thirty-eight year history there has been hundreds of dancers fortunate enough to make that transition, but there has always been one constant- Artistic Director Sylvia Waters. Walter’s World: Ailey’s Encore Performances At BAM

The twentieth year anniversary celebration for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Artistic Director Judith Jamison continues with a ten-day, encore performance series at the Howard Gilman Opera House in the Brooklyn Academy of Music, which located at 30 Lafayette Avenue. The twelve performances by the world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre begin on Thursday June 10th. This will be the last opportunity to see the Ailey Company in the New York area prior to the fall City Center season.
