Poetry Month, Patricia Spears Jones

Poetry

In celebration of national Poetry Month, we asked friend and poet Patricia Spears Jones to contribute work of her art for the celebration.

Here’s a work titled Audra MacDonald sings “Come to Jesus”. Patricia stated that the, “Audra MacDonald poem was started during the Presidential campaign”:

Audra MacDonald sings “Come to Jesus”

Where once the dream was to find delight in the berry’s moisture

Or in the moist hands of a dark eyed suitor

Where once the dream was to weep as the lover scandalized

Or walk dark roads un-brutalized

When once the dream was unfurled, a flag for waving

To wake each morning with the possibility

to charm the valley

or build a city.

Where once the walk was head high and bright-eyed

There is now talk of unlimited power.

Whose hands will hold it?

What will manifest?

Where will the riots start? What spells will break?

Where are the plutocrats’ tunnels?

Who will dam them up?
