Target’s Adding Gender-Neutral Decor In Its Harlem Store

February 10, 2016

Get ready East Harlem, Target knows that the best way to its customers’ hearts (you) — and wallets — is through listening and providing what they want.

In August, Target made many parents and customers happy (and some others unhappy) when the store made its toy section gender-neutral in an effort to make the franchise more “gender-inclusive.” Now, Target is taking its mission one step further.

Target announced it will release a new children’s home line, Pillow fort, on Feb. 21. While the collection will include plenty of pinks and blues, a Target representative told TODAY.com that shoppers can expect to find more pieces that are gender-neutral.

Target‘s design team spent time with our guests — moms, dads, and most importantly, kids — to find out what makes them tick,” the company said in a press release.

Senior vice president of product design and development Julie Guggemos told the Star Tribune that the new line will provide more options than what is currently a stores.

“It was an aisle of pink, fairy princesses, ponies and flowers,” she said. “And for the boys it was rockets and dinosaurs. Well, you know what? Girls like rockets and basketball. And boys like ponies.”

You can shop the new Target collection on Feb. 21.
