The 5th Annual National Urban Health Conference In Harlem

nuhc5The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce will explore issues concerning healthcare in urban communities encompassing Obamacare, prescription drugs, women’s health decisions, healthcare insurance and even stress reduction with Tai Chi & QiGong at the 5th Annual National Urban Health Conference from Thursday, April 23 through Sunday, April 26, 2015.  

The 5th Annual National Urban Health Conference is sponsored by Emblem Health, Metro Plus, Carver Bank, Capital One Bank, Touro School of Pharmacy, Harlem Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation and the office of Congressman Charles Rangel.

On Thursday April 23, the conference kicks off at the Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Office Building with seminars examining “Demystifying the Health Exchange” from 8:30am-11:00am;

“How the Affordable Health Care Act Works for You” from 2:00pm-3:30pm and “Women Making Informed Financial & Health Decisions”from3:30pm-5:00pm.

There’s a Community Health Open House on Friday, April 24 at the Emblem Health Neighborhood Care Center (EHNC) at 215 West 125th Street from10:00 am – 3:00 pm that features information on navigating the healthcare industry and healthy food and exercise demonstrations. A special senior citizens seminar on “Prescription Drugs: How to Safely Use Directly or Through Home Care Assistance” takes place at 12:00 noon at the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building.

On Saturday April 2, the public can participate in the 8th Annual Harlem Celebration of World Tai Chi & QiGong Day at St. Nicholas Park, West 135th& St. Nicholas Avenue. Also, the NY Black Nurses Association Health and Wellness Fair will be held at the Salvation Army Center, 540 Malcolm X Blvd beginning at 10:00 am. On Sunday, April 26, there will be special spiritual health messages at the following houses of worship: Brooklyn Christian Center and Harlem’s Abyssinian Baptist Church and First Corinthian Baptist Church.
