The LAGRANT Foundation (TLF) is now accepting applications for the 2013 – 2014 scholastic year for ethnically diverse undergraduate and graduate student. Applicants must be pursuing degrees in advertising, marketing or public relations. For the first time in the history of the Foundation, the scholarship will be open to the following additional majors: anthropology, art, communications, English, graphic design and sociology. Students must demonstrate they are pursuing a career in advertising, marketing or public relations. The deadline to submit applications is February 28, 2014 via

TLF will award $150,000 in scholarships to 40 students: 20 undergraduates will receive $2,500 each and 20 graduates will receive $5,000 each.

In order to qualify for the scholarship, students must be African American/Black, American Indian/Native American, Asian American/Pacific Islander or Hispanic/Latino. Students must also be pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in advertising, marketing, public relations,  anthropology, art, communications, English, graphic design or sociology. Undergraduates must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 and graduates must have a minimum GPA of 3.2.

Those selected to receive the scholarship must be available to attend all TLF scholarship events and make a commitment to maintain contact with the Foundation for assistance with professional development. The 40 recipients will receive a trip to Minneapolis, where they will participate in a welcome dinner on May 18, 2014. On May 19, 2014, students will partake in a daylong career development workshop hosted by Carmichael Lynch followed by TLF’s 16th Anniversary Scholarship & Donor Recognition Reception.

They will have the opportunity to meet with industry professionals during the reception and network with top executives from the communications industry. Students will participate in a second career development workshop hosted by Cargill on May 20, 2014.

TLF was founded in 1998 by Mr. Kim L. Hunter to address the gross lack of ethnic

representation in the communications industry. Through his efforts, TLF has provided 221 scholarships totaling in $1.56 million nationwide and helped launch over 200 internships and entry-level careers in the advertising, marketing or public relations industry.

Amber Miller, a 2013 scholarship recipient pursuing her master’s degree in Public Relations at the University of Southern California, was ecstatic after participating in the 2013 scholarship activities. “Thank you again for this amazing opportunity and experience! I can’t say thank you enough! I look forward to the day that I am able to give back and make a great difference in the lives of others. TLF has truly inspired me to push harder and aim higher. I have never been so excited for the future!” said Amber.
