A teenager was shot while trying to seek shelter inside a deli during a gun battle in Harlem Friday afternoon, law enforcement sources say.

Sources said a fight broke out between two groups near 128th Street and Park Avenue at about 4 p.m., and someone opened fire.

A 17-year-old boy ran into the 128th Street Gourmet Deli to try to escape the gunfire, but was hit in the leg and neck by bullets, according to sources.

He was taken to Harlem Hospital in serious condition.

It’s not clear if the teen was involved in the fight. No one else was injured.

Neighbor Nilsa Diaz said the victim was a “nice boy.”

“I always told him, get away from here,” she said.

Several shell casings were still on the sidewalk across the street from the deli Friday night, and police were searching nearby for more evidence.

Sources say police are still looking for four to five men seen running from the scene (source).
