TWA Hotel Soars Toward Spring 2019 Opening For Harlemites And The World

April 17, 2018

Ready, set, fasten your seatbelt for a ride from Harlem to a TWA Hotel throwback.

MCR and MORSE Development are reigniting the magic of Eero Saarinen’s landmarked 1962 TWA Flight Center at JFK Airport, restoring and reimagining it as a first-class hotel.

At the center of the TWA Hotel is Eero Saarinen’s iconic TWA Flight Center, where restaurants, bars and retail outlets will take flight. Two hotel wings, designed to reflect and defer to the landmarked TWA Flight Center, sit behind the historic building and contain 512 guest rooms with views of JFK’s runways and the TWA Flight Center.

Come check in to the TWA Lounge on the 86th floor of One World Trade Center. Their viewing platform inspired by the Swinging Sixties has panoramic vistas from Harlem to John F. Kennedy International Airport 16 miles to the east — and summons the spirit and glamour of the Jet Age. Can they offer you a beverage? Enjoy a refreshment from their TAB and Champagne fridge and wander across original, Eero Saarinen-designed penny tile flooring from the TWA Flight Center at JFK Airport while admiring our collection of vintage TWA air hostess uniforms, artifacts and memorabilia.

TWA Hotel’s 512 ultra-quiet guest rooms are preparing for takeoff! Inspired by the year 1962, when Jet Age excitement electrified the country, John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy graced the White House in the golden Camelot era and The Beatles released “Love Me Do,” TWA Hotel’s guest rooms will have views of JFK’s runways and the historic TWA Flight Center. Featuring authentic Eero Saarinen-designed midcentury modern Knoll furnishings, cocktail bars, vintage rotary phones and gleaming terrazzo-tiled bathrooms with Hollywood-style vanities, the guest rooms designed by New York City firm Stonehill Taylor will be accessible through Saarinen’s iconic flight tubes made famous by the 2002 film Catch Me If You Can.
