Uptown Arts Stroll Accepting Poster Contest Submissions

December 8, 2017

Artists living in West Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood can now submit poster designers for one of Uptown Manhattan’s premier annual art events.

The poster contest for the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance’s Uptown Arts Stroll went live this month and will remain open until Feb. 20, 2018, according to the organization’s website. In addition to having their design featured on promotional materials for the event, the winning artist will receive a $1,000 prize.

Artists may only submit one design for consideration, according to the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance. Designs should feature the following themes: The waterways which contribute to Northern Manhattan’s landscape, Uptown’s diverse clultural makeup and the words 2018 Uptown Arts Stroll or Paseo de las Artes.

Designs must be large enough to be printed in an 11 by 17 inch poster format, according to the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance. A panel of local artists will judge all the submissions and select a winner.

The Uptown Arts Stroll is a multi-day showcase that features events such as open mics, concerts, open studio tours and art classes. This year’s event took place during the month of June 2017.

The poster for 2017’s Uptown Arts Stroll was designed by uptown artist Alexis Agliano Sanborn. Sanborn, a founder’s committee member of the Washington Heights and Inwood Food Council, showcased northern Manhattan’s diversity in her poster. Several national flags, as well as the pride flag, and uptown landmarks are depicted on the poster.
