Several organizations, including law enforcement, will host a “clean slate” warrant forgiveness event in East Harlem on Saturday, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office announced.
People with open warrants for low-level offenses — such as disorderly conduct, public consumption of alcohol and unlawful possession of marijuana — can attend the event to resolve outstanding warrants without fear of arrest, the District Attorney’s office said in a press release.
“Clearing these warrants reduces unnecessary case processing in the overburdened court system and provides holders of open summons warrants a fresh start,” read a press release.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s office teamed up with the New York State Office of Court Administration, the New York City Department of Homeless Services the Legal Aid Society, Neighborhood Defender Services of Harlem, the NYPD and Bethel Gospel Assembly, Inc. to organize the event.
The warrant forgiveness event will be held at the Bethel Gospel Assembly on East 120th Street between Fifth and Madison avenues. It will start at 9 a.m. and end by 3 p.m., according to organizers.
