Watch Hispanic Heritage Awards Acceptance Speeches With Sonia Sotomayor And Other Awardees

sonia_sotomayor_in_scotus_robe1The 29th annual Hispanic Heritage Awards presented by Target, will be broadcast nationally across PBS affiliates this coming weekend on PBS affiliates celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. 

(The principal broadcast time is Friday, September 30, 2016, 10:00-11:00 p.m. ET, but this will vary by market and affiliate – please check local listings).

The Awards, among the highest honors by Latinos for Latinos and are supported by 40 national Hispanic-serving institutions,recognize the contributions and accomplishments of Latino leaders in various fields while celebrating cultural pride and the great promise to America. The 2016 Hispanic Heritage Awardees and the Medallion Sponsors include:

  • Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Leadership Award
  • Angélica María, Legend Award, presented by AARP
  • Junot Díaz, Literature Award, presented by Southwest Airlines, Official Airlines
  • J Balvin, Vision Award, presented by Hershey’s

SHORTS HD and HHF will also announce the winner of the Hispanic Heritage Short Film Award competition from the stage selected from approximately 1,000 entries and five finalists in an effort to encourage more Latinos to become filmmakers.

Orange is the New Black stars Elizabeth Rodriguez and Berto Colon host the evening’s festivities.  Performers include Grammy-Winning Singer J Balvin (who performs a rare acoustic medley of two of his hits); Icon Angelica Maria; one of Billboard’s ‘top new artists to look out for ‘Jason Cerda; Placido Domingo Awardee Opera Singer Ailyn Pérez; Grammy Winners La Santa Cecilia; Singer Nicholas Rodriguez; and Fania All-Stars – who were joined by special guests for a grand finale.
