What’s New: Harlem Chi Community Acupuncture (HCCA)

March 31, 2014

Main TmtHarlem Chi Community Acupuncture (HCCA) is pleased to announce that it will hold a Grand Opening to introduce its new health and wellness practice to the Harlem Community on Saturday, April 12th, 2014 from 5:30 to 7:30PM.  The event will take place at the clinic at 360 West 125th Street, 2ndFloor.  There will be a delicious sampling of home prepared hors d’oeuvres by the Harlem-based trending Big Apple Curry (http://bigapplecurry.com) and a sampling of fine teas will be provided by Harlem’s Serengeti Teas and Spices (http://serengetiteasandspices.com)

In bringing its style of community acupuncture to Harlem, Harlem Chi’s mission is make acupuncture and Chinese Medicine accessible to more people and to reveal the power of this medicine to help with a variety of acute and chronic health issues — particularly when it is practiced as part of a general maintenance routine. “Acupuncture has typically been practiced and promoted in the US in expensive spa-like settings that have limited the experience of the power of this medicine” says M. Johanne Picard-Scott, founder of HCCA and a licensed acupuncturist and nationally board certified Diplomate in Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). “These settings make it cost prohibitive to get the maximum benefits.  By making the experience more affordable the full potential of this medicine is more successfully achieved. The community-style setting is traditional in the East and provides an effective business model here in the U.S. to make acupuncture more accessible.”

Besides helping to keep the cost of treatment reasonable, the community setting creates a powerful healing environment wherepatients are supported to take charge of their health and wellness goals” says Picard-Scott.  At HCCA patients are treated in a calm and relaxing setting with a number of other patients resting nearby on tables separated by shoji screens or on comfortable lounge chairs.  “There is a palpable mood that is created in the community setting that quickly settles and encourages a deep state of rest, relaxation, and healing.”

Acupuncture is administered via the insertion of very tiny, sterile, single-use disposable filiform (thin like thread) needles into specific points on the body that stimulate the body’s self-healing and self-regulating mechanisms. It can effectively treat both acute and chronic conditions, from stress reduction, aches/pain, women’s health (menopause, PMS, irregular menses, infertility, etc.), digestive issues, post chemo/radiation therapy, to sports injuries and sports enhancement.  You can find out more at the Harlem Chi website (http://harlemchi.com/) – a resource for the community with a wealth of information for those interested in ways they can use acupuncture and Chinese Medicine to improve overall health. Residents can also go online to make an appointment.

HCCA provides acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and nutritional counseling as part of its services.
