Pilin Anice is bringing Afro Flow Yoga back to Asali Yoga in Harlem for the fall.
And I was happy to learn you don’t have to have an afro to do Afro Flow yoga, nor do you have to be African.

“Come one, come all,” said Pilin Anice. “We love to have everyone at Afro Flow yoga.”
Pilin, coincidentally has the same alma mater as Erica, owner of Asali. They both graduated from Howard University in DC. Pilin studied Musical Theater and still works in the arts in addition to teaching yoga. She has appeared in off Broadway plays and over 30 commercials.

afro4“Yoga was my way to give back,” said Pilin. “I got so much from yoga. And I wanted to be connected to people in a more personal way, more directly as a teacher.”

Pilin studied with Leslie, the founder of Afro Flow yoga. Sometimes Pilin’s classes have a live drummer. At other times she uses a track recorded by Jeff, Leslie’s husband.
“I wish I had a husband who drummed,” smiled Pilin. “My husband doesn’t drum.”

Pilin is also a healer and a nutritionist and she brings her philosophy to every class. “Afro Flow Yoga is a combination of vinyasa, kundalini and dances from the African diaspora,” she said. “We work with the four chakras and the seven energy centers. People leave the class feeling very energized.”

Pilin is excited to be bringing Afro Flow yoga to Harlem. She has already had a lot of success with the classes at Reflections in midtown and workshops at Alvin Ailey. Harlem was where she first came when she moved to New York after her studies, and she lived here for three years before moving to Connecticut.

For those who like yoga but who also like to workout with music, Afro Flow Yoga is a dynamic, exciting workout that also helps people to recharge. Pilin will be teaching at Asali Yoga on Thursdays at 6.30pm throughout the fall, and also at live workshops at Alvin Ailey on October 13th and 20th with live drumming.
