Yummy, NYC Homeless Shelter Host Thanksgiving Lunch In Harlem (Photographs)

November 17, 2017

On Thursday, November 16, 2017, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan, the head of Catholic Charities of New York, was joined by Bowery Residents Committee (BRC) presided over a lunch.

The lunch included tasty turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, vegetables and other holiday treats for the residents of the Holy Rosary stabilization bed program (448 E. 119th Street) to celebrate the Thanksgiving season.

Monsignor Sullivan will issue a special call to all New Yorkers to reach out to their neighbors and those in need this holiday season.

Holy Rosary is a former convent belonging to the Archdiocese of New York that now provides New Yorkers experiencing homelessness with the services and supports needed to stabilize their lives—one of four dozen houses of worship across the city that open their doors to homeless New Yorkers as part of their faith-based mission to assist those less fortunate. Faith-based stabilization beds are an important resource utilized by homeless outreach teams to help New Yorkers transition off the streets, as those individuals are often best served in smaller settings in the community, where staff are on-site to consistently engage and work with them as they obtain housing permanency.

The Bowery Residents Committee is a not-for-profit service provider committed to supporting New Yorkers experiencing homelessness through a range of efforts and resources, including transitional housing facilities as well as outreach.

In 2016, CCCS partnered with BRC to establish The Holy Rosary Stabilization Bed Program, a low-barrier program that serves 35 street homeless individuals, combining CCCS’s compassionate expertise in holistic case management with BRC’s 40 years of experience and expertise operating transitional housing facilities and helping to achieve significant housing placement outcomes for homeless individuals. New Yorkers supported by the Holy Rosary Stabilization Bed Program are referred to this location by experienced and dedicated outreach teams at BRC.
