June 13, 2014

_dsc0839On Thursday, June 12, The Bowery Mission opened to a crowded ribbon cutting ceremony at the second location for The Bowery Mission Women’s Center in Harlem, Manhattan’s only faith-based residential programs for women who have experienced homelessness.

“We look forward to celebrating … this project and most importantly the ability to serve many more women in crisis,” said Veronica Kelly, the Mission’s Director of Special Projects. “This two-year effort has been a labor of love for all involved.”

The Bowery Mission Women’s Centers (www.bowery.org)will now be able to provide residential living programs for 50 women at one time, doubling its previous capacity. Women served by the Mission live together in community and participate in counseling and classes that help women with emotional, educational, and career guidance. These programs lead to employment and reconnection with faith, family, and a plan for the future.
