Sanitation Registering Emergency Snow Laborers in Harlem

The Department of Sanitation is now registering emergency snow laborers who can be called upon to remove snow and ice citywide from bus stops,
crosswalks, and from step streets in sections of the City after heavy
snowfalls. The rate of pay begins at $12 per hour and increases to $18 per hour, after completing the first 40 hours, each pay week.

Interested individuals can register at any DSNY garage between the hours of

Caution Urged As Sewage Leaks Into Harlem River

Environmental officials urged swimmers and kayakers to stay out of New York City waters Thursday because a wastewater treatment plant disabled by fire was spewing millions of gallons of raw sewage into the Hudson River.

New York City Department of Environmental Protection officials urged people to avoid swimming, canoeing, and any other recreational activities involving direct contact with the water through at least Sunday in New York Harbor on the Hudson River, on the East River along Manhattan, and the Harlem River. Police I.D. Woman In Harlem River

Missing Persons

Police have identified the woman who fell through a hole in the fence into the Harlem River who died. The incident took place on Sunday, June 27 at a party at West 145th Street and Lenox Avenue. The woman on the left, wearing the green t-shirt, has been identified as the victim Anjelina Wills, 20 (the woman on the right has not been identified). Three other party attendees jumped in but could not reach her. Police were unable to rescue her as well. Continue reading

Huddled in the northeast corner of the isle, abutting the Harlem River and en route to the infamous Bronx, that’s not to say it hasn’t featured prominently in collective consciousness.

“Maria Maria . . . growing up in Spanish Harlem,” crooned Santana.

“Then we rode that Black Mariah, through the streets of Spanish Harlem,” penned Paul Simon.
