Delaware Online reports that in less than a week from tonight, New York Dolls frontman David Johansen will be playing a star-studded tribute to Howlin’ Wolf guitarist Hubert Sumlin at the Apollo Theater alongside legends like Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Elvis Costello.The Friday night show in Harlem has since morphed into a benefit for the Jazz Foundation of America and an appreciation of the influential blues man.
“Hubert was a good friend of mine. I sang with him for many years,” Johansen, 62, says from his New York home earlier this week. “He was a great guy and a really extraordinary man.” Continue reading

HARLEM, NY (Tuesday, October 13, 2009) Celeste Beatty of Harlem Brewing Company, brewers of Sugar Hill Beer along with Harlem World Magazine will launch Sugar Hill Cooks, a Harlem food series, at Miss Maude’s Spoonbread. The event will take place at 547 Lenox Avenue on Tuesday, October 27 from 6 to 9pm. Beginning in October through December, this series will introduce exciting mouth-watering recipes and signature dishes from three of the most renowned food establishments in Harlem. Each course will be infused with Harlem’s own Sugar Hill Beer. Throughout these culinary gatherings, live jazz performances and celebrity guest appearances will highlight the evening.
