15 Year-Old Shot In East Harlem

News

An East Harlem playground turned frightening Tuesday afternoon as a gunman opened fire on the crowded pavement, hitting a 15-year-old boy in the back, police and witnesses said.

The injured teen was rushed to Harlem Hospital after the 3:45 p.m. drama, which sent children running for cover inside Thomas Jefferson Park on E. 114th St.

“It is freaky scary that a kid got shot,” said Amarada Valdez, 18, who took her 8-year-old sister to the usually quiet playground across from the famous Rao’s restaurant.

“Our mom is going to tell us not to play here anymore,” she said.

Cops snapped a picture of a black bandanna lying in the park, causing some witnesses to think the shooting stemmed from warring street cliques.

Police said the wounded teen was not cooperating with efforts to identify the shooter Tuesday night.
