james-moody2Check out the great lineup of shows for The 5th Annual TD James Moody Jazz Festival with a lineup featuring Omara Portuondo, Wynton Marsalis, Catherine Russell, Angelique Kidjo, Talib Kweli, The Brubeck Brothers Band, Dave Grusin, David Sanborn, Christian McBride, Sharon Jones, Bettye LaVette, Lee Fields, Dianne Reeves and many, many more!

Please note that while we do have an outlying show on October 15 with Omara Portuondo, the majority of the series starts in earnest on November 1 and runs through November 20, 2016:

Saturday, October 15 at 8:00 pm at Prudential Hall

Buena Vista Social Club Presents Omara Portuondo 

Featuring Omara Portuondo, Roberto Fonseca, Regina Carter, Anat Cohen. The legendary Cuban singer celebrates her 85th anniversary in a rare concert tour with pianist Roberto Fonseca, clarinetist-saxophonist Anat Cohen and violinist Regina Carter!

Tuesday, November 1 at 7:30 pm at Prudential Hall

Jazz in the Key of Ellison 

Featuring Wynton Marsalis, Catherine Russell, Talib Kweli, Angelique Kidjo, Patti Austin, Joe Morton, Andy Farber & His Orchestra. An evening of great entertainment is in store when renowned instrumentalists, singers and speakers gather to salute the great American novelist Ralph Ellison’s writings and passion for jazz.

Sunday November 6 at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm at The Chase Room

The Brubeck Songbook 

Featuring The Brubeck Brothers Band, Hilary Kole, Michael Borne Musicians Chris and Dan Brubeck, sons of jazz giant Dave Brubeck, head a versatile band in concert with the celebrated Manhattan singer-pianist Hilary Kole and host Michael Bourne of WBGO Jazz88.3.

Cole Porter from A to Z: Celebrating 125 Years 

Featuring Judy Kaye, Robert Kimball Two-time Tony winner Judy Kaye sings all the great Cole Porter numbers (“Love For Sale,” “Let’s Do It,” “Begin the Beguine”) in a 125th anniversary salute hosted by Porter biographer Robert Kimball.

GRP Jazz Revisited: Honoring Larry Rosen 

Featuring Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour, David Sanborn, Phil Perry, The Yellowjackets Many of the greatest artists of the jazz label GRP Records reunite to present, individually and collectively, music from the studio’s heyday: Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour, Phil Perry, David Sanborn, and The Yellowjackets.

Get On Up: A James Brown Celebration

Sarah Vaughan Celebration 

Featuring Christia n McBride, Dianne Reeves, Lisa Fischer, Sheila Jordan. The Christian McBride Trio and special guests Dianne Reeves, Lisa Fischer and Sheila Jordan celebrate the legacy of Newark’s “Divine One” in an all-star jazz concert highlighted by rare film clips.

The Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition

Following an intensive search, NJPAC and WBGO host the five finalists in the fifth annual Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, founded in honor of Newark’s “divine” jazz icon. There’s also a host of additional free events including performances from Brandee Younger, The Antonio Hart Quartet, Winard Harper & Jeli Posse and quite a few more.
