Atlanta: Janelle Monae, Jidenna And More Support ‘MOONLIGHT’

moonlight1Yesterday, A24 Films partnered with the Cinema, Television, & Emerging Media Studies Program of Morehouse College (CTEMS) to bring the cast of MOONLIGHT to campus. Students enjoyed a private screening with a Q&A session moderated by Professor Stephane Dunn. moonlight2Cast members in attendance included Naomie Harris, Janelle Monae and Trevante Rhodes. Afterwards, the cast joined Juan Smalls and Gee Session-Smalls of The Gentlemen’s Foundation at the AMC Phipps for a touching discussion regarding the climate of the black experience in relation to the LGBTQ experience in today’s society, the influence of the black church and much more. Guests were able to share heartwarming reactions with the cast.  At the same time in New York, Director Barry Jenkins and Playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney joined BE@T for an intimate Q&A moderated by Emil Wilbekin at Time Inc’s Luce Auditorium followed by another discussion at the Brooklyn Academy of Music moderated by Rembert Browne.

moonlight3On Monday, October 17, A24 Films, in partnership with the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA), hosted a private screening of the new film MOONLIGHT at Regal Atlantic Station in Atlanta. Writer/director Barry Jenkins was in attendance along with cast members Naomie Harris, Janelle Monae and Trevante Rhodes. The evening began with a cocktail reception followed by welcome remarks from AAFCA president Gil Robertson and the cast. After the screening, Barry Jenkins and the cast were joined by NYU professor Frank Roberts for an in-depth discussion on black masculinity, sexuality and the art of filmmaking.

moonlight4MOONLIGHT openned October 21 in New York and Los Angeles and on October 28th in Atlanta. The film opens everywhere November 4th, 2016.
