Susan L. Taylor’s National CARES Mentoring Movement Hosts Star-Studded Gala

National CARES Mentoring Movement 1On Monday, January 25, 2016, the will host its first-ever For the Love of Our Children gala, presented by Verizon, to raise critical funding that will support the replication of the organization’s transformational group-mentoring programs, now operating in four US cities.  The event also doubles as a 70th birthday celebration for the organization’s founder and Essence magazine Editor-in-Chief Emerita, Susan L. Taylor.

Hosted by filmmaker and renowned director Lee Daniels (Empire, The Butler) with emcee Michael Eric Dyson, the For the Love of Our Children Gala will honor Eddie and C. Sylvia Brown for their extensive philanthropic support of educational initiatives through the Brown Family Foundation, and ongoing commitment to the CARES mission.  The event will also feature appearances by Toni Braxton, Hill Harper, Tina Knowles Lawson,Richard Lawson, Rev. Al Sharpton, Tamron Hall, Roland Martin, and other special guests, and performances by vocalists Cassandra Wilson, Oleta Adams, Alyson Williams and Vivian Reed; legendary songwriter and producer Valerie Simpson; three-time Grammy Award winner Terri Lyne Carrington; dancer Camille A. Brown;the IMPACT Repertory Theater, Mikayla Williams and 14-year-old jazz singing sensation, Mae Ya Carter Ryan.
